The latest news from Boswell's Books.

It's been at least a few weeks since we created a new post, and we do apologize. Today is Monday, February the 20th, and here is a brief update.

We are continuing our store-wide Customer Appreciation Sale: all new books, etc..., excluding consignment items, are discounted by 20%, all used books, etc. are discounted by 30%, and all remaining 2012 calendars and select CD's are discounted by 50%. We do appreciate our customers!

This coming Thursday, Feb. 23rd, at 6pm, "teacher, linguist, time-traveler, fiddler" and local author, David Brule, will be here at Boswell's to read from his book, WEST ALONG THE RIVER, which came out just a few months ago. He describes the book as "a compilation of lyrical essays and stories on nature and life in several villages in the Connecticut River Valley and beyond, to include travel adventures in Ireland, Brittany and France...it connects the oral history of events and village characters, comical encounters and tender embraces, linking the past and present to create a unique sense of place." We'll have signed copies for sale and light refreshments for all. Please come for what should be a free and fascinating event.

Lastly, for now, Boswell's Books IS NOT closing, it's still here at 10 Bridge Street, it IS for sale, and we are working with a local couple who are seriously interested in buying the store. Nothing is definite, yet, but we will let you know as soon as all the details get worked out. In the meantime, we do very greatly appreciate all your support, and we look forward to having you in the store again soon.

All the best,

Miss Charlotte Adventurous Boswell, and Russ

Boswell's Books is for sale.

In case you didn't see it in today's issue of THE RECORDER newspaper, Boswell's Books, at 10 State Street in Shelburne Falls, MA, is for sale. Boswell's has been a popular locally owned independent bookseller for close to 30 years. It's had several owners over those years, it's been in a few different locations in the center of Shelburne Falls, but the one constant (besides the books) has been a cat named Boswell. The current resident feline, Miss Charlotte Adventurous Boswell, often attracts customers and other visitors to the store, as much as the wonderful selection of new and used books, both music and books on CD, games, toys, cards and calendars, and other gift items. Also, Boswell's features books and handmade crafts by local authors and artists throughout the year, and hosts special events, such as book and poetry readings and signings, on a monthly basis. Boswell's Books is a valued part of Shelburne Falls, as well as all of "West County", and the current owners, Lori and Russ, look forward to finding the right book lover(s) to take the business over and continue to make it such a desirable location for shopping, browsing, or just sitting for a while with a book, and Miss Boswell of course!

Due to health and other personal circumstances, in the last few months Lori became unable to continue managing the store on a day-to-day basis, and as partnership changes became necessary, it also became clear that the best thing for Boswell's, and its loyal (and growing) fan base, was to seek new ownership. With a wide variety of new and used books and more, as well as Miss Boswell, the store is ready for a new book- and cat-loving owner to take over.

Please contact Russ directly at 413-768-0705 for further information.

New Year's Eve Party at Boswell's tonight!

We're having a New Year's Eve party at Boswell's Books tonight, from 9 PM until we feel like going home!  We'll have some food and drink to share, and plenty of music and games to play.  If you can make it, and we apologize for this being an almost last minute invitation, come on down anytime after 9 PM, and by all means bring a friend or partner, and you're welcome to bring anything else of food, drink, music and games to enjoy with others.  You may even bring anything you've written that you'd like to share with an appreciative audience.  If you think that you can make it, call the store at 625-9362 before 5 PM, or call my cell phone, 768-0705, anytime today.  We'll plan to be there until at least midnight, but if folks leave earlier and it's just us, we may leave earlier also.  Best to come earlier rather than later!  We hope you can make it, but either way, Happy New Year to all.

Russ

BosBuzz Event: The Little Yellow Trolley Car

On Thursday, August 25, at 5 p.m. Boswell’s Books invites children of all ages and their parents, to help us welcome local children’s author and illustrator Marie Betts Bartlett, who will read and discuss her bookThe Little Yellow Trolley Car.
Bartlett’s is a charming book filled with bold, colorful collage illustrations, a delight for readers of all ages.
The Little Yellow Trolley Car is the true story of a little trolley who brought passengers and freight from one small town to another between 1896 and 1927. You will cheer with her crowd of passengers when at last she runs again.
Since the year 2002 Marie has volunteered as a conductor and motorman on the trolley at the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum. She has told the story of the the little yellow trolley car many, many times, and she has felt for years that the story needed to be recorded in a picture book that would appeal to young children. The magic of railroads, a glimpse into days gone by, the resiliency of the old trolley, the hope and vision of restoration, came together as a story in a way that was very satisfying for Marie to write.
Copies of the book are for sale at Boswell’s Books. The author will be available to sign copies of the book after the reading. Refreshments will be served and the event is free to all.
