On Thursday, August 25, at 5 p.m. Boswell’s Books invites children of all ages and their parents, to help us welcome local children’s author and illustrator Marie Betts Bartlett, who will read and discuss her bookThe Little Yellow Trolley Car.
Bartlett’s is a charming book filled with bold, colorful collage illustrations, a delight for readers of all ages.
The Little Yellow Trolley Car is the true story of a little trolley who brought passengers and freight from one small town to another between 1896 and 1927. You will cheer with her crowd of passengers when at last she runs again.
Since the year 2002 Marie has volunteered as a conductor and motorman on the trolley at the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum. She has told the story of the the little yellow trolley car many, many times, and she has felt for years that the story needed to be recorded in a picture book that would appeal to young children. The magic of railroads, a glimpse into days gone by, the resiliency of the old trolley, the hope and vision of restoration, came together as a story in a way that was very satisfying for Marie to write.
Copies of the book are for sale at Boswell’s Books. The author will be available to sign copies of the book after the reading. Refreshments will be served and the event is free to all.
